about us

Austin Dog Alliance, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, with the mission of making dogs an integral part of our community. We believe dogs can and should be trained to live harmoniously in the home and in the community. We believe the human-canine relationship positively influences the lives of individuals. We believe the bond between humans and dogs can be used to enhance the lives of families and to benefit the community through hospital and nursing home visits, reading dog programs, and educational programs that enhance the self-esteem of our children. We believe that by promoting behavioral training and the benefits of our well behaved dog family members, we can reduce the “recycled dog” problem affecting our community’s shelters.

Austin Dog Alliance provides the following programs:

Rescue - The stories behind each of our rescue dogs vary, but they all have one thing in common. They need someone to believe in them. Our volunteer foster parents do just that. Along with high quality food, training, and socialization, our foster parents provide a nurturing home environment where the dogs can blossom. Somehow, just as each pup begins to thrive, the ideal adopting family comes knocking. Nothing makes us happier.

Youth Outreach Programs – By focusing our volunteer efforts on youth outreach programs, we not only help the children of today, but plant the seeds for change in future generations. The children we educate today will become the responsible dog owners of tomorrow. Our volunteer pet therapy teams provide a wide variety of dog related educational programs for area schools and youth groups. One of our youth classes, K9 Kids Club, is a favorite after school activity among 4th and 5th graders where learning about responsible dog ownership is great fun. It’s not just a hit with the kids; parents want to stay for the fun too!

Deaf Community Programs –We provide uniquely tailored youth and adult dog training programs taught in sign language to meet the special communication needs of the deaf community.  Not only do these programs help adult members of the deaf community train their dogs, but the programs also promote understanding and socialization experiences for our youth who are deaf and hearing.  Many of our educational programs are open to all students.

Dog Training – Austin Dog Alliance is uniquely qualified to provide a wide variety of fun and educational dog training classes. Our goal is to make your hour at dog training the most fun you and your dog will have all week.

Pet Therapy - The Bow Wow Reading Dogs are a smash hit in local schools where struggling readers have improved their reading skills by more than a grade level. Meanwhile, our work in hospitals and nursing homes has generated a demand for our pet therapy teams that is a challenge to meet. We provide seminars, classes, evaluations, placement, and ongoing support to our therapy teams.

Austin Dog Alliance is not a business, it’s a passion. Take one of our classes, enjoy one of our events or volunteer to help – you’ll soon understand……

Together we can make a difference!
