training philosophy

Austin Dog Alliance is a unique training center. Not only are we teaching basic pet dog manners classes, but we are also addressing the many needs of rescued dogs and preparing teams to volunteer in our many pet therapy sites. We are teaching the deaf community and embracing families with young children. All this is possible because our team of trainers come together with a common goal of teaching you how to train your dog so that your dog becomes part of your family. Our trainers have a tremendous amount of training and experience in many different situations. We have trainers with AKC titles, trainers with hundreds of hours of pet therapy experience, trainers involved in search and rescue, trainers with experience with hundreds of rescued/fostered dogs. While all our experiences are different, we all share an appreciation for positive methods that are tailored to meet the needs of the handler and the dog. One approach does not fit with every family or with every dog. We listen to your needs and adopt to make YOU successful.

Classes will be FUN and informative. We want your hour at dog training class to be the highlight of your week. We will use positive methods with the dog and games and prizes with the humans. Classes will start on time, be well planned and if you have an issue, we will provide individualized help.

In rescue, we so often get owner surrender or shelter dogs because the dog is too crazy in the home, it jumps up, it has potty accidents or it chews their shoes, and the owners just don’t enjoy the dog. At our training center, we will teach families how to live in harmony with their dog and to either fix or learn to adapt to a given dog’s issues and quirks. Our goal is to give each child a “Lassie” experience, the unconditional love of a family dog that is always there when you return from school, the dog that listens to all your woes and keeps wagging, a dog that can be the entertainment when all your friends are gone or Mom and Dad are busy.

Adults can benefit for the companionship and love of a dog as well. When you greet your dog at the end of the day, your blood pressure drops and a sense of contentment returns. This is the goal, not a dog that jumps on your good work clothes or eats your new sofa cushions. The other advantage of a dog is a walking partner. In this day and age when it’s difficult to fit in exercise, you and your dog can benefit from a calming walk around the block. We want to teach you how to achieve this.

We provide programs designed just for kids. Children receive a tremendous self esteem boast and sense of responsibility when they learn to care for their dog. We will help you educate your child about dog care and before you know it; your child will be demonstrating tricks for all your friends and family.

Once you achieve a well behaved dog in the home, you will want to share him with the community or perhaps pursue a fun dog sport like agility or rally. We will help you take your dog to the next level with Canine Good Citizen, pet therapy and other advanced classes.

We want you to enjoy your dog. Let us help you do just that.
